Embracing the iconic grandeur of the Orient Express, South Africa’s Rovos Rail experience is a once in a lifetime journey packed with adventure, fine dining and pure romance.

Traversing the length and breadth of South Africa with trips such as Pretoria to Cape Town and Durban to Pretoria, a Rovos Rail Train Journey is a chance to experience the glamour and excitement of the golden age of luxury train travel through some of Africa’s best scenery, bush and savannah.

Rest assured that surrounded by train’s unparalleled indulgence, you’ll enjoy the stark desert beauty of Namibia, the flora and wild fauna of Kruger Park, Hluhluwe and Oudtshoorn and the most scenic South African Golfing destinations to the fullest.

A family run company, the Rovos Rail  hospitality is meticulous, servicing up to 72 passengers in some of the most spacious and luxury train suites in the world.

It all begins with your arrival at the arrival lounge in Pretoria where champagne and canapés are served as you listen to a string duet and have the opportunity to meet fellow travellers.  On occasion, guests are personally welcomed by Rohan Vos, the South African owner of Rovos Rail.

Meanwhile the train’s uniformed porters will transfer your luggage to your carriage. All suitcases are carefully labelled with the distinctive Rovos Rail luggage tags.

Once on board, you’ll be immediately thrust into luxury via the traditional furnishings and period décor which ensure an atmosphere of elegance and grandeur in the Dining, Lounge and Observation cars.

Then comes your suite – a Royal Suite features a full en-suite bathroom with shower and Victorian claw footed bath while the Deluxe Suite is also en-suite with a spacious shower. With only two Royal Suites per carriage, or three Deluxe Suites, Rovos Rail offers comfort unparalleled in the world of train travel.

Activities while on board are also well planned and include a stint of golf at South Africa’s pleasureville Sun City, Dullstroom trout fishing and Malelane game viewing.

You’ll also be amazed at the wonderful culinary creations conjured up in such limited kitchen space. Your exquisitely prepped meal is served in the oak panelled dining car where you can linger over your three course set menu with a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian entrées accompanied by the best of South Africa’s wines. The accent is always on fresh, local ingredients and traditional South African dishes and desserts are, of course, sublime!

The chefs provide a full breakfast every morning with both cold and hot dishes cooked to order.

All in all, a fantastic and luxurious way to travel Africa.
