Cape Town has been voted third-best food city in the world by Conde Nast readers.

The Mother City’s reputation as a mecca for food, wine and restaurants was boosted last week as readers of Conde Nast Traveler voted it the third-best food city in the world.

Conde Nast’s editor-at-large Maria Shollenbarger describes Cape Town as “smallish, casual, but extremely stylish”. She notes the world-renowned addresses of The Test Kitchen and The Pot Luck Club and Neighbourgoods Market, as well as Bistrot BizercaRumbullion at the RoundhouseBistro Sixteen82Honest Chocolate and Baked Bistro in Bakhoven.

Cape Town was pipped at the post by San Sebastián in Spain, where experimental pintxos (the Basque term for ‘tapas’) spots rub shoulders with Michelin-starred establishments, and Paris, which Conde Nast suggest has undergone a renaissance, thanks to a new wave of affordable bistros.
